ETH Gas Spikes

What it is

When ETH gas crosses 100 gwei or jumps 3× over its recent baseline, you get pinged.

Why it matters

Sustained high gas means blocks are full and someone is paying to be inside them — a large mint, an MEV-heavy window, or a rush of on-chain activity. It is also the condition under which a pending transaction is most exposed to being front-run, because everything in the mempool is bidding for the same block space.

How to read the alert

The alert reports the current gas price and the multiple over baseline, which is what distinguishes a sustained condition from a single busy block. A spike that holds for 10 minutes means transactions submitted during it settle at that price, and that the mempool is competing rather than clearing.
