Polymarket macro whales: big positions in the days before a Fed decision
One meeting, several markets
A Fed decision is not one market on Polymarket. It is a set: "no change in Fed interest rates after the October 2026 meeting", "increase by 25 bps", "increase by 50+ bps", "decrease by 25 bps", each with its own price and its own order book. The prices across the set read like a probability for each outcome, and all of them resolve on the same afternoon, when the Federal Open Market Committee announces its decision (the FOMC meeting calendar).
So a large position in this feed is always a position on one branch. When $20,000 goes onto "increase by 25 bps", it is money on that outcome against all the others in the set — and the alert for the next branch, if money leaves it, arrives separately.
What the feed recorded
The Polymarket Macro Whales feed reports every trade of $20,000 or more on these markets; size is its only filter. Between 3 September and 27 October 2026 (55 days) it recorded 232 positions on 22 markets from 113 wallets, with a median size of about $32,800. These are positions our pipeline recorded, not messages anyone received.
- Fed decisions took three positions in four: 175 of 232. The September meeting drew 120 — the single busiest market was a 25 bps hike, with 50 positions worth about $2.31 million together — and the October meeting 54.
- They arrive late. The median position on a Fed market came 43 hours before the market's end date. Across the whole feed, 39% came within the last 24 hours.
- Brazil's presidential election was the second-largest topic (47 positions), because its event on Polymarket carries an economy tag and Darkmen sorts events by the tags Polymarket gives them (how Polymarket organises events and tags).
Reading one alert
Start with the outcome and the price. Sixty-one percent of the positions in our window were opened at 85¢ or more — money on the branch the market already priced as most likely, which pays little if right. A large position on a cheap branch is rarer and says more about disagreement with the consensus, though nothing about whether that disagreement is right.
Then the date. A position two days before the meeting is placed after most of the scheduled data is out; one three weeks ahead is a view on data not yet released.
Then the wallet. Polymarket keeps a profit board for economics, and two positions in five in our window came from wallets with a placement on it or on the global board. That is a record of past profit on Polymarket, not a forecast of this decision.

FAQ
What counts as a macro market?
An event Polymarket tags with the economy, the Fed, inflation, CPI, interest rates, recession, jobs or GDP. In our 55-day window three positions in four were on Fed rate decisions. The economy tag also catches some events you might not expect — Brazil's 2026 presidential election carried it and was reported here.
Why do these positions bunch up before a meeting?
A Fed market is one question per possible outcome — no change, a cut, a hike of 25 or 50 basis points — and every one of them resolves on the day of the decision. The median position on a Fed market came 43 hours before its end date, when the meeting is close and most of the data that will shape it is already out.
Can I see every outcome of one meeting together?
Each outcome is its own market with its own price, and each sends its own alert. Money moving out of 'no change' and into 'hike 25 bps' shows up as positions on two different markets; reading them together is up to you.
Does the alert tell me which way the Fed will go?
No. It tells you that $20,000 or more went onto one outcome at one price. The Fed publishes its decisions on its own schedule, and the market resolves on what it announces.
Which plan is this on?
Pro. Polymarket Macro Whales is one of the Polymarket feeds that come with the Pro plan.
