Stablecoin depeg alerts

What is a stablecoin depeg?

A stablecoin is a crypto asset designed to hold a fixed value — usually exactly $1.00. The three most widely used are USDT (Tether), USDC (Circle), and DAI. When any of them trades meaningfully away from $1 — even by half a percent — it is called a depeg or peg break.

Depegs happen for different reasons: a reserve audit scare, a liquidity crunch, a large panic sell, or a systemic failure in the backing mechanism (as seen in the 2023 USDC depeg when Silicon Valley Bank collapsed). The size of the move determines how serious the situation is. A brief 0.3% drift is noise; a sustained 5% break can signal something is fundamentally wrong.

What Darkmen tracks

Darkmen monitors major stablecoins across tracked venues and fires an alert the moment a deviation crosses the configured threshold. Each alert tells you:

  • Which stablecoin and which venue is showing the deviation
  • Current price and the size of the move off the $1 peg
  • Pool imbalance or order-book snapshot — so you see whether it is a liquidity event or broader selling
  • Historical context from recent depeg events for the same stablecoin

The goal is to give you structured data the moment it matters — not a tweet summary ten minutes later.

How the alert works

When Darkmen detects a depeg event, it pushes a structured alert across every channel you have enabled. The action you take depends on the size of the deviation:

  • >0.5% off — consider pulling liquidity from LP positions that include that stablecoin
  • >2% off — arb opportunity: buy the discounted version, redeem at $1 where possible
  • >5% off — something systemic may be breaking; reduce DeFi exposure broadly
